What Size Decking Screws?

There are issues that can occur if you don’t choose the right decking screw. A timber deck expands and contacts with heat cycles (think summer -> winter.) If the wrong size decking screw is used it can shear off and snap.It’s recommended to pre-drill and countersink each hole in the decking boards before use. What size decking screw to use all depends on a few factors:
- Board Width
- Board Thickness

10g x 50mm length decking screws
What size decking screws: Board Width and Thickness
Board Width
70mm – 90 – 120mmmm wide decking boards. The screw gauges to use are primarily 6g - 10g.
130mm+ wide decking boards. The screw gauges to use are primarily 10g – 14g
Board Thickness
For 19mm thick boards, a 50mm screw is recommended
For 22/25mm boards a 65mm screw is recommended.

Please understand that a thicker board needs a longer screw. Depending on the board thickness you may need to move up to a longer length decking screw.
